Trius Winery at Hillebrand
A Niagara-on-the-Lake original, Trius Winery at Hillebrand has been producing the finest in terroir wines since 1979, and what greater acknowledgement of consistent quality than to be named one of the Top Wineries at the Canadian Wine Awards in 2009. Trius Winery at Hillebrand has a true sense of its place in the Niagara-on-the-Lake terroir. This is home, and home is reflected in every bottle, every glass.
The Niagara-on-the-Lake terroir is unique in the world and must be interpreted and represented by the subtleties of its personality, subtleties that are definable even from vineyard to vineyard. Trius Winery at Hillebrand grows grapes in four vineyards: Ghost Creek, Carlton Vineyard, Clark Farm and the Backyard Vineyard. Each is different while being characteristic of the terroir and each provides great depth in terroir-influenced grape personality. The wines express the very spirit of the soil in which they are grown.
The greatest expression of that spirit must then be Trius Red, a blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot which was recognized 20 years ago as best red wine in the world at the International Wine and Spirits Competition in London, UK. This was Niagara’s first Gold medal on the world stage, and Trius Red continues to shine. During the Trius Art of Red Blending Experience, visitors wishing to try their hand at winemaking have an opportunity to create their own perfectly blended version of Trius Red to take home. The multiple award-winning Trius label continues to evolve and now encompasses single varietal red and white wines in addition to the blends of Trius Red, Grand Red and White. Trius Winery at Hillebrand has created numerous sampling and tasting experiences, including a guided horizontal tasting of the Trius line, Twilight Tour and Tasting, Sparkling Tour and Tasting and Icewine Tour and Tasting. Wine connoisseurs will be interested in the Collector’s Boutique tasting room, featuring exclusive small lot, single vineyard and single barrel creations alongside a selection of vintage wines.
Food and wine experiences are plentiful, and Trius Winery at Hillebrand boasts the first and one of the finest, Winery Restaurants in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Several ongoing dinner series’ fill the year with epicurean delight. Experiences include the Longest Table Dinner, Trius Red Barrel Cellar Dinners, the annual Icewinemaker’s Dinner and the Harvest Table Dining Series.
Other events like Jazz and Blues at the Winery and Corks, Canapés, and Canvases show the winery’s panache and celebrate the spirit of the terroir. At Trius Winery at Hillebrand it is understanding the notion of place is essential in holding a true appreciation of wine.
