September 28, 2011. Toronto, ON – The mix of silver medallists from the 2011 InterVin International Wine Awards includes some of the competition's highest scoring wines. The award winners features representatives from 10 countries, including Australia, Canada and the United States.
A total of 123 silver medals were conferred including 27 wines that retail for less than $15, which also received a special Judges' Award for Best Value.
"Winning a silver medal at InterVin isn't easy," explains Christopher Waters, editor of VINES Magazine and head judge of the InterVin International Wine Awards. "With only 47 wines receiving gold medal marks from the pool of some 1,100 entries, our judges worked diligently to access the quality of the wines they sampled. They truly looked to celebrate exceptional winemaking."
The 2011 InterVin International Wine Awards was conducted in August at White Oaks Resort & Spa in Niagara-on-the-Lake. A panel of distinguished sommeliers, wine writers and winemakers assessed nearly 1,100 wines from 15 countries during the extensive three-day blind tasting evaluation.
InterVin judges included internationally acclaimed sommeliers Lindsay Groves and Lorie O'Sullivan, respected wine writers Jamie Drummond and Daenna Van Mulligen and celebrated winemakers Natalie Reynolds and Sue-Ann Staff.
The results, including Gold, Silver and Bronze medal winners, a selection of top value wines and a spotlight of the Top 15 Wineries of the Year from the competition, will be formally announced in a special edition of VINES Magazine that will be released at the end of October.
Winners will also be featured in a special report in The National Post in November. For more information, please visit intervin.ca.
