Ravine Vineyard Estate Winery

Established in 2008, Ravine Vineyard Estate Winery elected the 150-year-old Lowrey Farm as the ideal sight for wine production. For five generations the Lowrey Family have grown grapes in one of Niagara-on-the-Lake’s oldest commercial vineyards. Rich soils and old vines are a winning combination and much of the upper vineyard sits on the ancestral channel of the Niagara River as it flowed 15, 000 years ago. The river has since moved on, but in its wake, nutrient-rich deposits in the deep soil bring unique qualities to the grapes. Certified organic and biodynamic farming techniques ensure that the qualities the soil contributes to the grapes lasts throughout the winemaking process. The resulting wines display unsurpassed elegance and maturity.

Quality of soil and vine however, is only part of the equation and Ravine Vineyard Estate Winery benefits by having two outstanding winemakers at the helm. Principal Winemaker Peter Gamble is a prominent figure in the Canadian industry, specializing in premium estate winery start-ups. An internationally sought-after wine taster, Peter has traveled extensively to the world’s famous wine regions, judging at international competitions.

Assistant Winemaker Shauna White is a graduate of the Winery and Viticulture Technician Program at Niagara College, but her education began as a child in the Sperling Vineyard of British Columbia. Shauna has worked in some of the finest wineries in France, Australia, the United States and New Zealand. She brings a similarly international perspective to Ravine Vineyard Estate Winery.

Oak aged and meticulously blended, the wines of Ravine Vineyard Estate Winery achieve a refined balance and the truest reflection of the land. Most notable among Ravine Vineyard Estate’s wines are the Riesling, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. Care and gentle guidance of the fruit and wine prevails from the vineyard to the cellar.

With 150 years of farming activity, the Lowrey Farm and Ravine Vineyard Estate encompass an historic streetscape of restored and recreated buildings highlighting significant architectural period. The hospitality centre, tasting rooms, and on-site deli and bakery all nest within these rustic buildings. Visitors are encouraged to ponder the rich history of the terroir while enjoying a glass of wine on the patio. Gourmet lunches, artisanal cheese, spectacular pastries and desserts emphasise the principles of organic preparation, fresh local produce, and uncomplicated delight. Tasting experiences are also available daily.
